I was delighted to find that there were still realizations for me to be made about this record even after listening to it so many times in the past.įor one, the mixing was super interesting to experience through headphones - Coltrane's playing seems to be isolated entirely to the left ear for basically the entire record, and I found that this created a really interesting effect when he would come in and out of his solos. That said, last night I took the time to listen to it front to back once again, and I also did so for the first time with a high quality pair of headphones (Some Beyerdynamic DT770s, if you're curious). A Love Supreme has been my favorite record of all time since the second time I listened to it, but I hadn't listened to it front to back in quite a while - in fact, I probably hadn't listened to it at all in a year or so since I purposely avoid putting any of it in my playlists I truly think it deserves to be enjoyed in its entirety, even if that means I may not listen to it as frequently as some other jazz singles.
